HPC & AI Application Analyst

Job Summary

This position reports to the company’s head of Applications and Performance. This position involves working with scientific and industrial Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications to port, profile and optimise their performance on High Performance Computing (HPC) systems as well as projecting performance to future hardware systems and software.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Support customer teams in training and/or retraining large AI and foundational models for scientific and industrial use cases.
  • Port and optimise AI applications to new HPC architectures.
  • Carry out high performance data analytics to optimise preprocessing or postprocessing of large data sets.
  • Support the optimization and creation of customer’s AI and HPC workflows on modular computing architectures.
  • Provide expert consulting services for HPC AI and data analytics workloads.
  • PoC for internal assessments of current AI software frameworks/methods, AI hardware accelerators and storage.

Expected education and experience

  • Ph.D. in the field of computational science, AI or applied mathematics
  • Five years working experience in the area of HPC and AI

Essential skills

  • Experience with parallel scientific applications and AI, data analytics frameworks.
  • Strong competence on C, C++, MPI, OpenMP programming, experience with Fortran desired.
  • Experience in GPU programming (CUDA, OpenACC, OpenMP).
  • Expert experience with Tensorflow and/or PyTorch.
  • Experience with workflows.
  • Experience with application performance modelling and/or deep understanding of the issues affecting HPC application performance.
  • Experience with training foundation or large language models.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and analytical ability.
  • Ability to effectively communicate across all levels.
  • Fluency (written & spoken) in English.

Desirable skills

  • Familiarity with Linux, bash and python programming.
  • Familiarity with HPC workload management systems e.g. Slurm.
  • Experience with HPC workflows or embedded HPC and AI applications.
  • Experience with cloud environments and container orchestration/kubernetes.
  • Experience with hyperparameter optimization techniques and software.

Job conditions

  • Location: Munich (Germany) and Switzerland
  • Flexible working hours, flexible workplace including home office
  • Office available near our German headquarter in Munich
  • Occasional travels, mostly to destinations in Europe
