ParTec at IEEE Quantum Week 2024

The IEEE Quantum Week Panels brought together a diverse group of leading experts for engaging discussions on the forefront of quantum computing and engineering. These panels covered a wide range of critical topics, including hardware-software co-design, hybrid quantum-classical computing, quantum advantage, and the future of quantum applications. Discussions also delved into emerging areas such as post-quantum cryptography, fault-tolerant quantum computers, and the evolving needs in quantum systems engineering.

Panelists, representing both research and industry, shared their deep insights and fostered a stimulating dialogue that bridged the gap between theory and practice. They explored the challenges and opportunities in quantum programming education, workforce training, and the rapidly advancing frontiers of quantum information science and algorithms. These conversations not only highlighted the current state of the field but also set the stage for future innovations in quantum technology.

ParTec had the opportunity to be on the panel “Quantum Software Stack: A Quest for Technological Maturity”.

Key takeaways from the session

  • Understanding the quantum software stack is integral to be able to harness the potential that quantum represents. The session touched upon anything from low-level qubit manipulation to gate-level operations (physical and logical gates) as well as the importance of compilation and error management.
  • Interoperability is key: The panel emphasized the need for quantum computers to be able to coexist with classical resources. For practical applications, seamless interoperability between quantum and classical systems is integral.
  • The discussion highlighted how quantum computing integrates with classical workflows at the application layer. We explored the roles, current technologies and future prospects.
  • A key element of the panel was to highlight the complexities faced in terms of technology, integration and know-how.
  • The panel clarified the specific software steps involved in running applications on hybrid quantum-classical systems.
  • Last but not least the discussion helped identify where and how integration occurs within a unified computational stack.
